How it works

Transparent methodology, in 3 steps

Step 01

Picking the skins

Each index has clear rules a skin must pass to join: minimum price, minimum listings on Steam, and minimum price history. Stickers, capsules, and graffiti excluded — we only track skins that are actively traded.

Step 02

How items are weighted

A skin's weight in the index is its price × how many copies are listed on Steam. Items that are both expensive AND easy to trade count more. Same method the S&P 500 uses for US stocks.

Step 03

Rebalance

Every month the basket gets refreshed (every 3 months for STI 30) — old skins drop out, new ones enter. Same math trick the S&P 500 uses to keep the chart smooth across changes — no artificial jumps from the basket itself.
